‘Teen Mom’s Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra Share Public Letter to Carly's Adoptive Parents
Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra’s adoption saga has taken a new turn.
During a virtual therapy session with Dr. Drew Pinsky to mediate their strained relationship with their daughter Carly’s adoptive parents Brandon Davis and Teresa Davis, the Teen Mom stars were offered the chance to listen to a recording of the 16-year-old singing. But now, they claim the olive branch came with conditions.
In a post on Instagram May 22, the pair wrote that Brandon and Teresa “refused” to let them have a copy of the song, alleging that they were only allowed to listen to the tune if it was captured on camera. As they explained, hearing Carly sing has been “emotionally intense” in the past, which made them want “a moment to listen in private.”
The post also included screenshots of a letter addressed to Brandon and Teresa—who adopted the teen after her birth in 2009—in which Catelynn and Tyler questioned the intention behind the gesture amid the ongoing tension between the two families.
“You get upset that we speak about our adoption story publicly,” the couple wrote in the letter shared on Instagram May 22, “but simultaneously want us to share a very personal song regarding our adoption story nationally on television for the whole world.”
Carly and Tyler, who also share daughters Nova, 10,Vaeda, 6, andRya, 3, noted that Brandon and Teresa’s offer left them feeling “stuck, confused, controlled & manipulated.”
“It's confusing because you don't want us to have the song ourselves (even though that's what Carly wants),” the letter continued, “but yet you want the whole world to have it & are using TV to do so (even though you've claimed many times that you do not want to be a part of TV).”
Despite their frustration, the duo extended their own peace offering.

“We are incredibly sorry that if anything we have said about our truth as birthparents has hurt you or Carly or negatively impacted your life. That was never our intention,” they said. “This reconciliation effort isn't for you or for us...it's for Carly & what she needs & wants.”
In a preview clip from the May 22 season finale of the MTV reality series, Catelynn and Tyler met virtually with Dr. Drew to discuss their rift with Brandon and Teresa. During the session, the addiction specialist held out hope for an eventual reconciliation between both sides.
“What Teresa kept saying was she absolutely wants what you want and to maintain a relationship,” he explained. “But she feels like she needs kind of a reset. For everybody to calm down and for all of the negativity to kind of settle.”
